The CSIC is pleased to announce that YORhub has achieved Pledger status with the Carbon Reduction Code for the Built Environment (CRCBE). YORhub helps build a better Yorkshire and Humber for the benefit of local communities. By helping the public sector source high-quality contractors and consultants through the YORhub suite of construction frameworks, YORhub plays a critical role in the regional procurement process.
“It’s been a lot of work to get YORhub signed up to the code, but important work. Every firm working in construction, from clients to contractors, consultants and suppliers, should play their part in net zero and sign up. Following on from our signing up I’m organising a workshop for our suppliers next month on signing up to the code, and as the National Association of Construction Frameworks sustainability lead I’m sharing YORhub’s journey and supporting other NACF framework members on sign-up.” Mike Raven, YORhub’s Performance & Improvement Manager
Although YORhub, as a group of frameworks, has a relatively low direct carbon footprint, it exerts significant influence over carbon emissions through the procurement of works. To address this, YORhub has achieved Pledger status by requiring the same level of commitment from the suppliers they engage with. This means their supply chain will be expected to:
-
Publish a carbon reduction plan (targeting net zero by 2045) and report progress annually.
-
Set a 2030 interim target for reduction.
-
Declare any offsetting if used.
-
Implement a carbon literacy programme which includes the leadership team.
By joining the CRCBE community, YORhub has demonstrated how an organisation with influence—rather than direct emissions—can still lead the way in climate action. By embedding carbon reduction expectations into procurement processes, YORhub is helping to raise industry standards and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon built environment.
Mike Raven, YORhub’s Performance & Improvement Manager said: “It’s been a lot of work to get YORhub signed up to the code, but important work.
